On Thursday, January 29, GOAL members gathered at the Alley Exchange to discuss upcoming events, issues, and action for 2015. The evening started off with delicious South Dakota apples and only got better from there.
We strengthened our chapter by approving temporary bylaws and setting membership goals for the upcoming year. A committee was formed to research what the greater Oahe region and its citizens need from a local foods campaign. Topics discussed included creation of a food hub, a regional food shed analysis, farm to school, and how to conduct “lay of the land” assessments.
The upcoming chicken yard art campaign was also a main topic. The yard art campaign is very exciting, because it involves locally made art, decorated by enthusiastic chicken supporters, a contest, and a very visible show of community support for backyard chickens. Sign up between now and February 28 and, with a free-will donation, you will be able to pick up your hen at the KCCR Farm and Home Show. More information is also here and we will be posting more later.
Lastly, we talked about upcoming events. On February 3, from 5:00 p.m.-8 p.m. GOAL will have a booth at the YMCA Activities Roundup. The YMCA is located at 900 East Church Street, stop by and say hello! Later in the month we are exhibiting at the KCCR Farm, Home, & Sports Show. The KCCR show is a wonderful way to reach people that we typically would not have a chance to talk to and, this year, we will have chicken art! Please sign up, the show runs February 28, 9a.m.-5p.m., and March 1, 11a.m.-4p.m. We need your help to man the booth, contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you area able.
