We want to make sure when we go back in front of the Pierre City Commission we have all our chickens in a row. We want to meet with all the commissioners, meet with those who opposed us last time, and show massive support from the community for urban hens in our fair city of Pierre.
To do that, we need your help. We are launching our Urban Chicken Art Project, a way to show public support for an urban chicken ordinance in a fun and creative way. The goal is to have 100 homes, apartments, and businesses sign up to get a wooden chicken, which you can then decorate however you choose. You’ll have all of March to decorate it, and on April 1 we’ll all put out our wooden chickens, and everywhere people go in Pierre, they’ll see these chickens and will know we want live ones, too!
Here’s the plan:
February 9-March 31: Sign up to get your wooden chicken. They’re about 1.5 feet high and 1 foot wide. (A suggested donation of $20, $10 or $5 will help us recover the cost of making them).
They come in plain pine so you can decorate them how you want. Realistic, modern, country, the choice is yours!
April 1: Put out those chickens! No April Fool’s joke – we want urban hens! When you put out your chicken, post a photo on our Facebook page and we’ll put it in our “Urban Chicken Art Project” album – and get all your friends to “like” your photo!
April 7: Deadline to post your chicken lawn art photo
April 8-17: Whichever photo gets the most “likes” wins a prize!
Please join us in this endeavor. Passing an ordinance is never easy, and we will all need to come together to make this happen. So sign up now – and happy decorating!
